Name, major, and year:
Hi! I'm Avery Ominsky, a junior at WashU pursuing a Communication Design major with a minor in Business of the Arts.
-
Background and reason for taking this class:
I am interested in design, fine art, technology, and visual communication. I am taking this class because I want to strengthen my skills in designing for digital and interactive experiences, particularly web design and UI/UX.
-
Experience with HTML/CSS/JS:
I have some experience with HTML and CSS through previous web design and portfolio projects. I have used them to build websites and have also worked with basic JavaScript in my last semester's course Visual Principals for the Screen.
-
One thing I hope to learn:
I hope to become more confident in building responsive websites.
-
Designing for screen vs. paper:
I expect designing for screen to be different because screen-based designs are interactive and need to adapt to different devices and screen sizes, while paper has a fixed physical format.
-
Website that exemplifies effective design:
Apple's website exemplifies effective design because it uses a clean visual hierarchy, strong typography, and large imagery to clearly communicate what is most important.
-
Website that exemplifies effective communication:
WashU's Canvas website displays effective communication because it organizes a large amount of information through clear headlines, hierarchy, and typography.
-
Website that works well:
A website that I love and works well is Figma because it has a simple, intuitive interface that makes it easy to navigate, create, and collaborate on design projects.
